Voldby is a parish in Djurs Nørre Herred, just north of Grenå. Thorso appears to be a village in Voldby Parish, southwest of the town of Voldby. This is where the IGI has Maren born. The 1845 census has her from "Weilby", though. There was a "Maren Pedersdatter" in Vejlby, Sønderhald, but she was one or two years older, and had a younger sibling born in May 1800. The Maren Pedersdatter in Vejlby had parents Peder Sørensen Mutti and Kirsten Pedersdatter, who had three other children. This family is problematic, however, if our Maren said she was from "Weilby", how can we be so sure she was from Voldby, especially in light of my inability to find her birth record there (though the IGI says she has one). Still, her son Jens Peter was born there, and there is a candidate born in Voldby Sogn at the right time (in the census, at least).
In 1801, the following family resided in Sangstrup Bye, Voldby Sogn:
Peder Andersen Kiær, age 50
Dorthe Marie Nielsdatter, age 28
Maren Pedersdatter Kiær, age 2
Both parents were apparently also in Sangstrup during the 1787 census. A "Peder Andersen", age 36, was then married to Maren Jensdatter, age 46. Dorthe was age 13, living with her parents Niels Andersen, age 77, and Ane Marie Pedersdatter, age 37. |
