Mary was still living with her parents in Houston in 1870.
"Mary Isabella Kapphahn was born 10-30-1858 at Houston, MN. Came to Parkers Prairie in 1870. The family later moved to Leaf Valley near the Kapphahns which brought her and Christian together.
"In 1886 Mr. Kapphahn and his brother sold out at Leaf Valley and joined a wagon train with 50 head of cattle headed for Garden City, Kansas. After the year of heat and drought, they headed back to MN."
