| Notes for William Johnston | ||||||||||||||
| The 1900 census corroborated our family record (and the cemetery record) of William's birthdate by reporting that it was in February 1821. However, the 1850 and 1860 census had him born between mid-1821 and mid-1822. William Johnston and his family were pioneers. When William was about 27, they moved from New York State to the Wisconsin Territory, just before it became a state. Nine years later they moved to the Minnesota Territory, a year before it became a state. The Johnstons were still in Houston in 1870. "the Johnstons came to Parkers Prairie in 1870, settling first in Leaf Valley township, and then to Woodside township, near Wrightstown, in 1877." He died in Minnesota, very probably in Otter Tail County. | ||||||||||||||
