| Obituary: D.D. Searles of Liberty township departed this life Friday, August 7th, 1903 aged 82 years. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Christian church at Meridon, Iowa, and were conducted by Rev. Polly of Larrabee. The remains were laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Gere cemetery in Liberty. In the passing of Mr Searles Cherokee loses one of its pioneers, he having settled on a farm in Liberty in 1869. For some years he has been a confirmed invalid and death came as a welcome release from constant suffering and has been expected for some time. Mr Searles was of a quiet, retiring disposition but did his share as a pioneer in developing this county and he will be missed by many friends, especially by those who came to the county in an early day. He left to mourn his loss the following named children: Mrs John Sweet, Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Mr D. D Searles, Troud, Okla; Mrs Chas Kurtz, Granite falls, Minn; Mrs G P Baldridge, Viewfield, SD; Mrs W. O. Dailey, Meriden, Iowa. - The Cherokee Times, Cherokee IA, August 14, 1903. | ||||||||
| Notes for Daniel D & Hannora (Family) | ||||||||
| "They supposedly married in 1864 in Winnebago Co., Illinois when Hannora's first husband, Sullivan Daniels, did not return home from the Civil War. They left Illinois and came to Webster Co, Iowa for a few years, then on to a dugout home in the side of Mill Creek in Cherokee Co., Iowa." - Margaret Ford | ||||||||
