A Conrad Schaefers, listed as Xavier Schaeffers' half-brother in the Polo centennial book, was perhaps the first in the family to immigrate to America. He may have been Hermann Conrad or Friedrich Conrad. "Conrad Schaefers had come from Germany and wrote back encouraging his brothers to join him. They were seeking freedom from the government restrictions and the strict military being imposed on all young men." | ||||||
